American Beauty

  • Song : "American Beauty Theme" & "Dead Already"
  • Judged : I saw the movie 3 or 4 times and these songs stayed with me, like the movie itself these songs make you think about the things that are told to you in the film. Makes you think of the floating plastic bag, the death of Kevin Spacy's character and the simple fact that we do live short lives and we must enjoy every single minute of it.

Billy Joel

  • Song : "We didn't Start the Fire", "Uptown Girl" & "Goodbye Saigon"
  • Judged : Billy Joel, a singer songwriter from my youth... I remember the clips from "We didn't Start the Fire" and the lyrics and music from the others and now, over 10 years later, I dug 'm up and they still have the same effect and meaning they had then. Especially "Goodnight Saigon" and "We didn't start the fire" are songs with a deep meaning about life and war.

BIS

  • Song : "Eurodisco"
  • Judged : This song is a bit happy in comparance of other songs I like but it has a kind of "Revolution"-kind of attitude in it... it makes you feel like an invincible individual for some kind of reason ready to take on the world as it attacks you.

if it's not worth pretending then I don't want to know..."

Buckcherry

  • Song : "Anything, Anything"
  • Judged : This cover from Bananarama (or something like that) was first heared after watching the film "Road Trip". It's a semi-hard rock song about a couple with problems and the guy doesn't know what's wrong... the content isn't important actually but the song is good for it's fast paced, almost violent, speed.

Delerium

  • Song : "Silence"
  • Judged : A much talked about song, at least here in Belgium, that was turned grey on parties. It's hard to describe but you get the feeling as if you're walking alone in an abandoned street, the wind and rain gushing through you're hair as you ponder about past, present and future. Melancholia erupts and you wish to break free from it. Song where you got to turn the volume up maximum, close you're eyes and let the feelings flow.

Dr. Dre

  • Song : "Still Dre"
  • Judged : Yeah niggah (no offence) still fucking with you... don't really know why I like this song, it's just one of the many rap-retaliationsongs that you hear about lately. Still, it's fun to listen...

De Kreuners

  • Song : "Ik wil je" & "Zo jong"
  • Judged : Belgian group that sings in Dutch the lot of you usually won't know, featuring mister Walter Grootaers (Walter Bigarse... Oh! The cliché-jokes I tell)... anyway these are songs from a long, long time ago... classic favourites so to say.
  • Homepage : http://dekreuners.mypage.org
Lyrics :
"wie kan het wat schelen, zo zijn er zovelen,
ik wil je, blijf bij me, hou van me, ga nooit meer weg"

I want you, stay with me, love me, never leave me"

Frank Sinatra - Sid Vicious

  • Song : "I did it my way"
  • Judged : "And now the end is near, and so I face the final curtain..." this song says it all. If it wasn't that popular in funerals already I would play it when I die but don't immitate, innovate. Although the two versions are completely different the message it tells is still the same.

Genesis

  • Song : "Jesus he knows me" & "Land of Confusion"
  • Judged : The 80ties were one of the favourite decades, and Genesis definately ruled them and provided its sound. Beat mixed with a critical content, a message to the people. "Jesus he knows me": a straight attack on TV Preachers in America that fill their pockets with the money of their naïve followers, and "Land of Confusion" with that puppet video clip, depicts the fall of the world due to the mighty powers that can't seem able to run their countries straight. You just gotta like Phil.

John Williams

  • Song : "Crimson Tide"
  • Judged : I enjoyed Crimson Tide very much and one of the best parts of the movie was were the Crimson Tide rode the waves while this song played loud on the background. The rebellion, honor and pride are all elements you can find back in this themesong.

Korn

  • Song : "Shoots and Ladders" & "Freak on a Leash"
  • Judged : Ah Korn, never really discovered if they were actually good or not. I don't think they are but they have a few songs that are appealing. "Freak on a Leash" is fairly good but I like the Rammstein Remix better and "Shoots and Ladders" mixes Scottish sounds with nursery rhymes very well (I see the stupidity and pointlessness in it as well as I write this). They have other semi-good songs but they don't please me as much as other bands I know and like. The most Unfortunate thing is that the whole group (or maybe just the lead singer) has so much self-pity... woe woe.

Moby

  • Song : "Honey", "Porcelain", "When it's cold I like to die" & "Why does my heart feel so bad"
  • Judged : Moby is good because he makes good music that apparently is able to touch people in certain ways. Honey is one of the lesser songs perhaps because it's too joyfull, but Porcelain and especially "When it's cold I like to die" and "Why does my heart feel so bad" are songs that makes one ponder.

Papa Roach

  • Song : "Last Resort"
  • Judged : Cut my life into pieces, this is my last resort, suffocation, no breathing... this is my last resort. Another song that makes you wanna fight, kick the shit out of society to make him realise what their doing. Not the best rock song out there but it's good for the time that it lasts.

Phill Collins

  • Song : "Groovy kind of Love" & "Sussudio"
  • Judged : Here's Phill again, Phill looks like someone who wouldn't harm a fly but I think he's as sarcastic, cynical and most of all critical about stuff as some other people. If I'm wrong, too bad but that's the picture I have of this guy... "Groovy Kind of Love" is a personal song between me and my muse, and we both fell in love with "Sussudio" after we heared and saw it in "American Psycho"... but hey, the Psycho can tell it better then me:
"Phill Collins solo efforts seem to be more commercial and therefore more satisfying
in a narrower way, especially "No jacket required" and songs like "In the air tonight"
and "Against all odds" (though that song was overshadowed by the masterful movie
from which it xame) and "Take me Home" and Sussudio (great, great song;
a personal favourite) and his remake of "Can't hurry love",
which i'm not alone in thinking is better that the Supremes' original"

Pink Floyd - Faculty Soundtrack

  • Song : "Another Brick in the Wall"
  • Judged : The original is a classic and the remake is a refreshing one, this song mainly is good because of the message it portrayed and the manner in which the beat progresses. Like marching trampling fascist feet nearing the youth.

Pixies

  • Song : "Where is my mind"
  • Judged : Fight Club ended with this song and Fight Club is all about opening people's eyes for what's happening around them. The song itself portrays Edward Norton's character, but also shows the peace he has found after the... well rather explosive ending... This is the song that'll slow you down and makes you think in the arms of a loved one.

Rolling Stones

  • Song : "Paint it Black" & "Sympathy for the Devil"
  • Judged : Two songs that have personal meaning to me... "Paint it Black" simply because it depicts me and my character in some points, it also makes me relive the show "Tour of Duty" where it was the theme music. "Sympathy for the Devil" (also on the ending credits of Devil's Advocate) depicts me in a lesser manner... it shows the gentleman in the most evil of evil.

Satyricon

  • Song : "Filthgrinder", "Havoc Vulture" & "Tied in Bronze Chains"
  • Judged : Satyricon is a rampaging black metal band... songs like "Havoc Vulture" and "Filthgrinder", with their mixed rythms, and the magistrally dark "Tied in Bronze Chains" touch you into the deepest and blackest core.

Sisters of Mercy

  • Song : "Temple of Love" & "Theme from Lost Boys"
  • Judged : Another group from my past, the Lost Boys themesong is vampiresque in such a manner that you feel the desperation and decay of the human or vampiric person as well as the fangs you know from the film in it. "Temple of Love" is the kind of song that almost has it all: the dark, deep, rebellious attitude and the longing for love.

Slipknot

  • Song : "Sic" & "Wait and Bleed"
  • Judged : These masked "sicko's" have some good songs that'll make your blood pump, the fast paced fight moshing song "Sic" with it's "Carlito's Way" sample (Here comes the pain -e.d.) makes the adrenaline rush through your vains. Wait and Bleed - the original version, not the mellowed down Scream version which proves Slipknot is a slave for commerce- is of equal nature as the first. The only difference is that in the second song the rage builds up to it's high point.

Soulwax

  • Song : "Conversation Intercom"

Talking Heads

  • Song : "Burning down the House" & "Once in a Lifetime"

  • Judged : The masters of Black Metal, heavy hardcore sounds resembling the reversed Inquisition riding their chariots through Christian villages plunging everything with a violent rampage. This together with Glenn "the evillist man on earth" Benton's rough, almost demonic, voice produce a Black Metal seldom heared elsewhere.

  • Judged : Spitting out, almost poetic, straightforward, violent lyrics like a machinegun Eminem is a rapper with apparent skill that peaks not only for his colour out of the normal rap-scene. Something one cannot deny, especially when you hear the phone tap raps or other fragments from radioshows or Rap Olympics, is that he has a talent for rapping.

  • Judged : This Californian group introduced industrial-metal as far as I know and mixed their rough riffs with futuristic sound and content. Their evolving story about the ever-increasing domination of machines upon mankind is something I recollect doing once too but those people I presented it to didn't seem to understand -grin-. Fear Factory is, although they might not be that well known outside their field of work, definately worth listening.
